A New Fave: Style Arc Kim Swing Top

I think I finally found the perfect tunic pattern for those drapey clingy knit fabrics. I have a small stash of them because I just couldn't resist the beautiful prints they come in.

The Style Arc Kim Swing Top is a tunic length top with round neckline, asymmetrical hem and short sleeves. I posted a detailed review of the pattern including alterations I made here (Pattern Review).

Fabric

I sewed two versions, both in rayon/lycra.

I combined the grey and black "Fossil" knit fabric purchased from Marcy Tilton.

I used this gorgeous panel print also from Marcy Tilton. It is a sweater knit that is so soft and drapey. I didn't want to use it all up on one top so decided to combine it with a coordinating solid rayon knit jersey from my stash.

Construction

This is such a quick and simple top to make. There are only four pattern pieces--the front, the back, sleeves and neck binding.

Hard to see here but I used my regular sewing machine using tiny zigzag stitches to sew the pieces together before serging the seams. Shown above is the shoulder seam with a strip of clear elastic to stabilize.

This is a view of the neckline with the black knit binding. I used triple stitch (no. 09 Juki HZL F600) along the outer edges.

For this top, I used medium length zigzag stitches along the outside of the neckline. I also covered the back inner neckline with strip of knit jersey. I was not happy with how my serged seams looked like when they met at the beginning and end.

For the sleeve and bottom hemlines, I used my coverstitch.

I'm really happy with these tops and this pattern is definitely being stored in my TNT (tried and tested) pile!

  1. These are so pretty and look lovely on you. I hate to buy another t-shirt pattern but I think this one may be a "must-have."

    1. Thanks Carol! I know what you mean. I have some tunic tee patterns from Jalie and Marcy Tilton but like in Goldilocks, this Style Arc is just right--not too loose, not too tight and not as much of a fabric hog!
