Vogue 1630 by Sandra Betzina--Take 3

I first sewed this pattern in July of this year. Not long after that I sewed my second version. And four months later, here is my third version. I wrote a comprehensive post focusing on the construction details here so this post is just for eye candy!

This is the main fabric I used--a designer block print silk double organza purchased in this year from Emma One Sock. I did not store it in my stash box as I usually do as I wanted to make sure I would sew it this year. I was afraid storing it for too long may result in undesirable and permanent creases on the fabric. I had a hard time deciding what pattern to use as the print was huge and I was not sure how to handle it. Then two days ago, I had an epiphany. Why not just showcase the whole print as a panel and let it be the star? Hence this third and dressier version of Vogue 1630! I paired the main fabric with leftover satin from my stash. So hope you don't mind if this is just a picture-heavy post.

And finally here is a side by side comparison of the three versions!

  3. I really like the third one pictured. I'm glad you took the time to talk about the construction. I am in the middle of cutting out this pattern and I need a size D so I am cutting on the E line so I can sew on the D line. Since I haven't sewn much (except quilts) in the past 10 years this pattern is difficult for me to follow because it is not symetrical. Thanks for sharing - they all look very good on you.

  4. Just searched Pattern Review for a top made with silk organza and discovered this one. OMG it looks fantastic, the print surely does shine. I'm off to the local fabric store to buy the pattern luckily still in print. Once again you're an inspiration.
